SUMMER BEAT (Tanka)


Heat touches my face
I’m trying to find a shade
Here comes the summer
No one could really escape
The most awaited season.

Tanka (from the Japanese for “short poem”) are mood pieces, usually about love, the shortness of life, the seasons, or sadness. Composed of 5-7-5-7-7 syllables.
